RAIN WATER HARVESTING SYSTEM DESIGN

RAIN WATER HARVESTING SYSTEM DESIGN
In the ancient time people used to harvest rain water in natural ponds or in underground tanks. Rain water fall on roof of building is stored in underground tank through gutter and pipes. The capacity of underground tank depends upon annual rain fall, runoff coefficient & area of roof. For example roof is 12 meter length and 6 meter wide. The area of roof is 72 Square meter. The annual average (ten years) rain fall is 300 mm, the runoff coefficient is 0.8, than capacity of underground will be 17280 liters. The total cost including pipes and other construction will be Rs.60000/- approx. The farmers can harvest water in their farm. They choose the catchment area according to their need of water. In the Barmer district the water is harvested in underground tank  called “TANKA”. The  capacity of this tanka is 20000 liters to 1.00 lac liters. The material used for tanka is cement, coarse sand, fine sand and concrete 20mm. The catchment area 100 to 200 Square meter is provided. About 500 tankas have been prepared under my supervision with the help of Cairn India CSR programe.
